Sarah Simmons is the Director of Quality for the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. She previously served as the Executive Director of a nonprofit hospice provider after several years as Director of Quality and Compliance. During her nearly 15 years of progressive experience as a hospice nurse leader, Sarah has delivered consistent results across clinical operations, facility management, policy development, clinical education, regulatory compliance, and organizational leadership.
Sarah spent six years on the Board of Directors for the Hospice and Palliative Care Network of Maryland where she served as Chair of the Regulatory/Quality Committee and was a frequent conference speaker
on topics related to hospice quality and improving patient outcomes. She led an initiative to revise Maryland’s drug disposal legislation in keeping with national best practices and contributed recommendations to the state health plan to include mandatory quality measures in the review of all
new hospice providers.
Sarah holds an MS in Nursing, Education specialty from Western Governor’s University, a BS in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University, and a BA in English Literature from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She
is a certified hospice and palliative care nurse (CHPN), Fellow of the University of Maryland School of Nursing Nurse Leadership Institute, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa
