Pediatrics Professional Resources
Pediatric palliative and hospice care providers work in interdisciplinary teams to deliver family-centered care that includes the child and family as one unit of care, respecting individual preferences, values, and cultural beliefs, with the child and family active in decision-making regarding goals and plan of care.
Children are not small adults. Developmental differences among infants, children, and adolescents affect diagnosis, prognosis, treatment strategies, communication, and decision-making processes present challenges to adult providers who do not have training or experience in caring for children. However, at times adult providers will provide care for pediatric patients and should be prepared for their unique needs.
